Krippenstein Freesports Arena

SnowPlanet magazine voted the Krippenstein Freesports Arena the freerider scene hotspot, allowing the arena on the Dachstein in Upper Austria to relegate institutions such as Cortina, St. Moritz and Arlberg to the lower ranks!

The Krippenstein will satisfy the needs of any winter guest. Among the highlights, you’ll find Austria’s longest ski run at 11 kilometres and freeriders will be delighted at the many untouched off-piste slopes and deep powder snow.

Beyond the runs and cliff drops, the Stoa (the stone) as the locals deferentially nickname the Krippenstein offers exciting and varied activities for winter enthusiasts.

Take some time out on the glacier’s plateau and let your gaze sweep across nature’s awesome beauty. Explore the Stoa on touring skis or snowshoes – we’ll be delighted to help you find a route to match your tastes.

Great skiing pleasure on- and off-piste

Thirty kilometres of off-piste variants and the abundance of snow you can rely on in the Dachstein glacier region kindle a keenness for deep powder and skiing fun.

Schönberg, Imisl and Eisgrube provide rough mountain ridges, lots of different slopes and select wooded runs. 1,500 metres of elevation difference per ride will challenge your endurance and focus.

Explore the Krippenstein Freesports Arena as part of our winter season offers.

Loser ski area

A mere 25-minute drive from Hallstatt you’ll find the rocky and imposing Loser. The Loser’s sunlit plateau has your kind of winter sports in store no matter what your preferences: chill out gliding gently down the family-friendly Europacup piste, wend your way wildly down the FIS ski run, jump and slide your snowboard through the new fun park on the Sandling.

Beyond the tree line, the freeriders among you will love the freedom of almost boundless off-piste snow runs. The Loser ski area is also popular among hikers. You can go on ski tours, snowshoe hikes or even on ski treks. Ski areas that offer as much skiing variety as the Loser are few and far between.

Reliable snow conditions

The Ausseerland is well-known for its abundant snowfall. Thanks to its ideal geography (the mountains ‘catch’ and dam the snow clouds), winter fans live a life of luxury here: the Loser’s slopes stay covered in all the snow you could wish for from December until Easter. And if nature does decide to cut back on snowfall now and then, cutting-edge snow machines are on hand to help.

Leave the bustle behind: thanks to the latest in lift technology and the expansive ski runs, you’ll find no crowded pistes in the Loser ski area. And if you’re looking to chill out even more, visit the Loser Alm ski hut’s sun-drenched terrace before treating yourself to some spa in the Heritage.Hotel Hallstatt’s attic sauna.
